Default Warrior Tank - Factions

Hi there,

My first post :P

Ok let me get started.

I currently only have factions and I notice that every tanking build I look at requires skills from the first version of Guild Wars. Im unable to get that version, and wont be able to for some time untill i find the money to purchase it.

So, is there anyone out there that can give me a hand or point me in the right direction on what it is I need to do to be an effective tank with only Guild Wars: Factions skills.

Im currently a W/Mo and have tried to use a number of different builds but to no avail, Im still taking to much damage.

Im set for using any type of builds being Sword, Axe or Hammer. And have most spells in each of those areas. What I dont have - if its in the factions game - I can get it easily enough.

Check out the following skills, they're all Core or Factions skills:

"Watch Yourself!"
Auspicious Parry [Elite]
Deadly Riposte
Riposte
Defensive Stance
Protector's Defense

Hey Zui,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Two of those skills - though good - are not factions or core warrior skills.

The skills im referring to are:

1. Deadly Riposte
2. Riposte

I have the other skills listed.

Hmm, you're right, I thought Riposte and Deadly Riposte were Core skills, but I guess they're Prophicies skills.

Either way, I think you can definently get by with just those skills listed(Minus the Ripostes), you should be able to get about 30 seconds of being in a stance out of just Defensive Stance, and Protector's Defense, which is usualy enough time to kill whatever mobs were aggroed. Most Monks shouldn't have much of a problem healing you durring the downtime, especialy with "Watch Yourself!" up.

If you still feel that you can't stay alive though, you could try working in some monk spells like Spirit Bond, Protective Spirit, and maybe even Shielding Hands. If you're having energy problems running this, you could work in a Zealous weapon, which are usualy fairly cheap, and especialy a Zealous Axe, since combined with Cyclone Axe and Tripple Chop [Elite] it's an insane energy machine, in addition to providing some nice damage.

Bring a monk.

Exactly where are you in Factions? Are you using Frenzy? Exactly what do you count as being 'too much damage'?

A 'tank' isn't supposed to stand in a crowd of monsters and hold them for extended periods of time without help. Your job is to hold aggro while monks buff and heal you, keeping pressure off of your backline. In most areas of the game, you should be able to go in without a single defensive skill on your bar and still be an effective tank.

Hey, since you are a w/mo you usually play a little defensive. Watch youself is a good skill. Try to bring skills that affect other members of the party just like watch youself. check and see if Shields Up is available.

are you playing through the game?

You can also try going W/E for earth magic. For an investment of 10 Earth Magic Armor of Earth will give you +48 armor, but move 26% slower for 30 seconds and you can keep this up constantly. Ward against melee is also good and will also give your allies some protection as well. Sliver armor is a new factions skill that also helps you tank by giving you 42% chance to block attacks for 9 seconds and will damage foes around you if you are the target of an enemy spell. Obsidian flesh is also an awesome tanking spell but is an Elite skill. You get +20 armor and cannot be the target of enemy spells for 16 seconds at 10 earth mastery however you move 50% slower. Adding in that you can bring Earth attunement to make the spells cheaper and also wield an enchanting mod to make the protective enchantments last longer going w/e for a tank build can prove to be extremely effective and something different instead of the regular w/mo tanks out there.

hey guys,

Yeah ive played through and finished the game with my warrior. My current build seems to be working nicely.

1. Defensive Stance
2. Auspicous Parry
3. Watch Yourself
4. Protectors Defense
5. Disember
6. Executioners Strike
7. Healing Signet
8. Resurect.

Strength: 13
Tactics: 12
Axe: 9
Protection: 3 [ If for some reason I use Spirit Bond instead of Protectors Defence ]

Thats my tanking build so far if you guys have anything that I should change that only requires skills from factions then dont hesitate to suggest them.

As for my original build that I used for getting through the later missions in the game were. I was pov at the time and a little n00b, ive only just recently started looking up elite skills and what not on the guildwiki site.

1. Power Attack
2. Silverwing Slash
3. Sun and Moon Slash
4. For Great Justice
5. Tigers Stance
6. - what ever here -
7. Healing Signet
8. Resurect

Watch Yourself and Dolyak Signet, full sentinel armor, Sup Absorb & Sup Vigor runes, Victo's sword/axe and Victo's shield. That's all you need for defense.

Contrary to what many say about Sentinel's 'steep' 13 Str requirement, I wouldn't wear anything else. It's THE best armor proctection a Tank can get. Period. Slap your Sup Absorb on the chest slot and you're cooking.

I'm not sure if Dolyak Signet is available in Factions. If it isn't try any ''75% chance to evade'' type skill instead.

Good idea, but W/E screams the temptation to go shock, shock certainly isnt a tank. Plus energy management...alot fo energy and skills taken up there.

It's not too bad actually. Prior to factions I ran a W/E tank with only Armor of Earth and Obsidian Flesh without having energy problems. Add in Watch Yourself! and Dolyak Signet you get to see why Superman is smiling all the time.
